Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge

Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge Form and Instructions

A prerequisite/corequisite challenge requires written documentation, explanation of
alternative course work, background or abilities which adequately prepare the student
for the course. A Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge Form can be downloaded or obtained from either the Assessment Center  or Admissions and Records Office.

Reasons for seeking a Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge may include one or more of the following:

  1. A prerequisite/corequisite is not reasonably available;
  2. The student believes the prerequisite/corequisite was established in violation of
    regulation or in violation of the District-approved processes;
  3. The student believes the prerequisite/corequisite is discriminatory or being applied
    in a discriminatory manner; or
  4. The student has the documented knowledge or ability to succeed in the course
    without meeting the prerequisite/corequisite.

It is recommended that the student enroll in the prerequisite class while waiting for the challenge results to ensure that this prerequisite course will remain available to the student should they be denied their petition.
