Welcome to Golden West College Basketball
Throughout the years, the Golden West College women’s basketball program has traditionally produced some of the most solid and consistent performing teams in Southern California. The team is coached by former Rustler standout, Elizabeth Sirchia, who is now in her third season leading the program.
The Lady Rustlers have captured three state titles winning the first in 1979, and capturing the other two in consecutive seasons, winning in 1990 and 1991. The program also produced back-to-back Southern California Championships in 1987 and 1988.
Individually, Sirchia (1991), former teammate Claudette Jackson (1990), and Melanie Iwamsa (1992), all received Kodak All-American honors, with Sirchia being named a first team member. Both were also chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the state tournament in their respective years.
Additionally, GWC women’s basketball program has manufactured six All-State players, and 11 All-State Regional selections. Six other Lady Rustlers (Pam Banks ’79, Meledy Bland ’79, Chris Gage ’80, Timi Pitzer ’80, Jeannine Battaglia ’87, and Jenny Sullivan ’91) have been named to the state’s All-Tournament team throughout the program’s history.
