Description:
The Diesel Technology Program is a vocational/technical education program designed to provide entry level and in-service skills required of a diesel repair technician. Diesel repair technicians diagnose, service, and repair diesel powered passenger cars, light /heavy duty trucks, construction, marine, and agricultural diesel powered equipment.
Students have had the ability to enter the program at the beginning of the Fall, Spring, or Summer (except the last two years there has been no offering during the summer) sessions and are responsible for the purchase of textbooks, personal safety equipment, and basic hand tools. Upon satisfactory completion of 30 units of required course work, students become eligible for a Certificate of Achievement in Diesel Technology. If the student so desire he or she can go on for an AA degree with an emphasis in Diesel Technology.
Engine repair services are provided to the community, and our close ties to the diesel repair industry have been instrumental in nurturing a mutual support network that attracts generous equipment donations to the program and numerous employment opportunities for our students.
Although the student is encouraged to pursue a two-year AA Degree in Diesel Technology, he or she has the option of attending Diesel classes for one year and obtaining a Certificate of Completion. Those students successfully completing this program are then able to enter into the diesel industry in the capacity of an advanced apprentice diesel mechanic.
