Description:

The Golden West College Floral Design and Shop Management Program is a comprehensive vocational program for the Floral Industry. This program focuses on floral industry needs and does not cater to the “craft” type classes. Strong emphasis is placed on basic entry level skills and design theory. Some courses offer more advanced techniques of design and business procedures. This vocational certificate program has a well-established reputation with the Floral Industry and strong support from the community/industry members which serve on the Floral Design Advisory Committee. Faculty members have a strong industry network of colleagues which keeps instruction fresh and cutting edge.

The Floral Design program continues to support the Golden West Campus especially the Golden West College Foundation’s major fund-raising events such as the Gala. Designing creative centerpieces for this annual event not only gives students hands-on experience with large events but showcases this unusual vocational certificate program. The Floral Design Program will provide floral centerpieces for the Community College League of California’s Annual Convention in November, 2006. This “extra-curricular support” demonstrates the dedication of the faculty in promoting the Floral Design and Shop Management Program and serving the Golden West College community whenever possible. The Floral Design Booth at the College Preview Day always proves to be a favorite among the incoming high school seniors.
