Police Academy Orientation, Police Academy, Regular Basic Course
CJ 054 2 units
This course is designed to familiarize the student with the police academy training program. This course may be taken 4 times. Credit/no credit only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.

Police Academy - Regular Basic Course (RBC)
CJ 064 23 units POST certified
This course provides the fundamentals of basic police training in compliance with the minimum standards established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The training includes community based policing concepts, techniques, and observation of application. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only. Prerequisites: Criminal Justice 054AD(see above)

Civilian Supervisory Course
80 Hours - POST Certified

Communications Training Officer (CTO)
40 Hours - POST Certified

CPOA- Leadership Development for Law Enforcement

Dispatcher, Update
24 Hours - POST Certified

Investigation & Trial Prep
80 Hours - POST Certified
This course provides advanced training for investigators working for the District Attorney's office or equivalent. Pre-requisite: P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate. Contact Joyce Wofford at (714) 895-8370 or email: jwofford@gwc.cccd.edu

PC 832 Laws of Arrest & Firearms
72 Hours - POST Certified
This course provides the training required by PC 832 for peace officers.

Section 1: Laws of Arrest (48 Hours) Satisfies the curriculum standards of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) as required by California Penal Code Section 832. See GWC catalog for specifics. For Section 1, please register through the GWC Admission’s office.

• Mar 29, Mar 30, Apr 5, Apr 6, Apr 12, Apr 13, 2008 Sat/Sun 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Section 2: Firearms (24 Hours) Satisfies the curriculum standards of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) as required by California Penal Code Section 832. See GWC catalog for specifics.

Important: Firearms Portion has enrollment requirements:

  • Participants must have a Department of Justice clearance letter (or equivalent) on file with the CJTC office before registering for this class.
  • Participant must meet specific physical requirements for firearms range qualification.
  • Students are responsible for payment of firearms range and ammunition fees.

• April 19 (Lecture), April 26 - 27, 2008 (Range) Sat/Sun 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Public Safety Dispatcher Course
120 Hours - POST Certified

Please note: The starting date for this class is TUESDAY, February 19 and will also meet on SATURDAY February 23 the first week but will meet Mon-Fri the following two weeks.

Specialized Investigator's Basic Course (SIBC)

Basic knowledge and skills in compliance with minimum standards to meet requirements established by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) for persons serving as Specialized Investigators in the State of California. Includes both physical and academic standards for successful completion. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only. Prerequisites: Criminal Justice 053AD (see above) or current employment as a Specialized Investigator in a California law enforcement agency
