Library Policies

Mission Statement

The mission of the Golden West College Library is to support the students, faculty, and staff by fostering a collaborative learning environment that promotes educational achievement and evaluation of and access to information for lifelong learning through content rich resources, library instructional programs and, current technologies. Library Card

GWC students are issued a photo ID library cards during registration. Your current student photo ID is required for all library transactions. You must be currently enrolled in classes for your library card to work.

Material/Book Checkout:

Golden West College Library will honor valid library cards held by Orange Coast College, Cypress College, Fullerton College, and CSU Long Beach.

PRINT MATERIAL:

Books
3 week check-out/ 3 week renewal
Reserve Material 1 week/2 day/2 hour/ 2 hour in room use only
Periodicals/Newspapers In room use only

NONPRINT MATERIAL:

VHS/VT
Media Center use only.
Audiocassettes Media Center use only.
Kit Media Center use only.
DVD Media Center use only.


Returning Materials:

Please return all materials to the Circulation Desk or to the outside book return slot.

Overdue Materials:

GWC Library charges fines on overdue material. Fines are .25 cents per item per day to a maximum of $10.00. Fines are assessed for weekends as well as during library hours since books can be returned 24 hours a day in the outside book return.

Lost Materials:

The patron must pay for lost materials. As soon as borrowers realize that a library item has been lost, they should phone the library and notify the circulation desk. Charges for lost materials include processing costs. Please check with the GWC Library staff for more information on these charges.

Interlibrary Loans:

The primary purpose of the interlibrary loans service is to assist GWC students, staff, and faculty with course-related information or research needs. An ILL is initiated by a librarian, if GWC Library resources are exhausted, unavailable, or inadequate. ILL requests which are not course-related may be referred to a public library.

Technology Learning Center:

Computer facilities are for educational and research purposes only. You must be a currently GWC enrolled student to use the computers. Printing is available for .10 cents a page.

Databases:

Remote access is available. Passwords are required to access databases off-campus or from home. If you are a currently registered GWC student, sign up for the passwords at the reference desk
