science showtime with students working in science

Many of us remember the dreadful days of chemistry, biology and, dare I say it, physics! Well, the Rotary Club of Huntington Beach and Golden West College have teamed to try to not only demystify science but to maybe, just maybe – help kids like it.

For the eighth consecutive year, Huntington Beach Rotary and GWC will host Science Showtime, a free event that is open to the public to get grade-school kids (and their families) interested in science with the hopes that someday those impressionable minds will consider careers using math and science. And this is definitely no boring textbook snooze-fest.

Guests will have access to more than 20 interactive exhibits, including attractions such as glow-in-the-dark rocks, make-your-own slime, generating electricity on a bike, operating a Rainbow Environmental Services recycling truck, Halloween chemistry, spaghetti and marshmallow towers, Alka-Seltzer rockets and more. To commemorate Golden West’s 50th Anniversary, kids can make their own souvenir using a penny-smashing machine.
